Case Study 6 –Deaflympics Uniforms
Intandem was awarded the tender for the Deaflympics to design and manufacture the Volunteer and Executive uniforms for the 2005 Deaflympics.
The Deaflympic Games, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee, is the second oldest multi sport and cultural festival on earth and had 3,500 athletes and team officials from 85 countries attend and participate in 15 sports. Over 150,000 attended the Games that were held in Melbourne in January 2005.
Intandem were awarded the tender because at the end of the tender process the Deaflympic executives claimed “Intandem's enthusiasm was the highest we have ever seen and because while all tender submissions were all over their budget, Intandem had undertaken to work with us to develop the range we required within our available budget”.Intandem conducted a number of joint planning sessions with the client to review fabrics, designs, colour ways to meet all their requirements - including budget.
One of the key objectives of the design from the Deaflympic Committee was to have a bright and vibrant uniform, incorporating the "hands" image which became an important branding device for the Deaflympics.
Intandem produced the full range of Volunteer and Executive Uniforms including: Polo shirts; Caps; Bum bags; Water bottles; Silk ties; Silk scarves; Jackets/Blazers; Dress Shirts; “Driza-bone” style over coats; “Akubra” style hats; Straw hats; Sports bags; Lanyards.
All uniforms were stored in our warehouse and specific items and quantities delivered on a “just-in-time” daily basis as uniforms were individually distributed to volunteers.
The Melbourne 2005 Deaflympics were described by the International Deaflympics as the best ever Deaflympics. |
